Description Coin
Description Coin
This coin was designed by Ulrich Böhme. The central motif depicts a portrait of Richard Wagner in a subtle three-quarter view, combined with a cross-section of the Festival Theatre on the "Green Hill". Wagner’s profile draws on a visionary, iconic portrayal of the composer wearing a velvet beret. The depiction of the Festival Theatre stands out not only for its high level of detail, but also for the concept of illustrating an architectural sectional drawing of the entire building, including the auditorium, stage tower, sound space with orchestra pit, and backstage area. The value side features a dignified eagle with outstretched plumage.

Backgroundinformation
The Bayreuth Richard Wagner Festival is an annual music festival dedicated exclusively to the stage works of Richard Wagner. Since 1876, it has been held on the so‑called ‘Green Hill’ in the Festival Theatre specially built for this purpose. Wagner conceived the festival as a place for a unique artistic performance tradition in which music, drama, and stage design form a unified whole. Particularly distinctive are the theatre’s exceptional acoustics and the traditional seating arrangement of the concealed orchestra in the recessed orchestra pit, which is still maintained today. The festival holds great cultural significance and attracts an international audience. Despite certain historical controversies, it has developed into one of the most prestigious opera events in the world.
