Description Coin

Description Coin

While the initial goal was to improve the playground situation in Germany, today the organization advocates for the rights of children in all areas. The 20 euro silver coin honors the importance and work of the organization on the anniversary.

The motif of the 20 euro silver coin "50 Years of the German Children's Fund" was designed by the artist Susanne Jünger and impresses with its lightness and clarity: with the two logo figures, the stylized hexagonal donation boxes and the two typical colors red and blue. The children in the motif appear to throw the eight hexagons into the air like balls in a game. Or are soap bubbles floating there? Maybe symbolic of their dreams? A fine horizon line gives the two figures grounding, and pictorial and typographic elements are balanced to one another. The successful composition of the motif makes it clear when looking at the central idea that characterizes the German Children's Fund, expressed by the writing on the edge of the coin: It's the children who matter.

Backgroundinformation

Backgroundinformation

Many people in Germany know them: the hexagonal donation boxes that are set up in shops, banks, pharmacies and other places. Around a third of the donations from which the German Children's Fund is financed come from these boxes. There are euro coins and foreign currencies and still several tons of hard money are collected every year, counted by people with disabilities.

The broad spectrum of the German Children's Fund includes the promotion of children and youth projects (e.g. educational offers, cultural activities, media projects as well as the promotion of play and exercise) and unbureaucratic help for children in poverty. The offer ranges from tutoring to school bags and healthy meals to subsidies for vacation trips. Political work is also an important part of the orientation. The German Children's Fund develops recommendations for action for politicians and tries to influence the interests of the children through events, hearings and personal conversations. It's always about strengthening children and young people, giving them a voice and creating the framework for them to grow into self-determined personalities.
