Description Coin
The motif by artist Natalie Tekampe covers almost the entire coin in a richly modelled sculptural manner. The lynx turns towards the viewer and appears to pause in its movement, its head slightly lowered and its left front paw raised. The delicate design of the eagle on the obverse is derived from the image side. The geometric design creates an unusual and dignified representation.
Background information
The Eurasian lynx lives in large forest areas and was once widespread in Western Europe. Human persecution in particular has almost completely decimated the populations. Individual specimens are appearing again today in a few German low mountain ranges. The coin motif vividly and richly showcases the largest cat in Europe seemingly pausing in mid-movement: with piercing eyes, clearly visible muzzle and cheek whiskers, the ears with their brush-like tufts and the striking strong legs with large paws.
