  The coin marks the start of a five-part series on “Musical Instruments” (2018 - 2022, one issue per year) in acknowledgment of German musical instrument making, which has been highly regarded in Europe since the Middle Ages. The instruments are in demand throughout the world, due to their quality and innovation, and are therefore ambassadors for German musical culture at home and abroad.
  
  The image side depicts the double bass as an important orchestral instrument, which is positioned prestigiously in the center of the coin.
