10 euro silver commemorative coins 2007

In 2007, five Sterling silver (925/1000) 10 euro commemorative coins will be issued.

  • 50th Anniversary of the Federal State of Saarland

Both sides of the coin have an easily legible, clear and harmonious relationship with each other. The image side depicts a memorably formed, historically significant architectural backdrop from the World Heritage Völklingen Ironworks and the university library. The four equal-sized, symbolically designed heads in front of the buildings embody mining, industry, new technologies and the culture of the State.
In the same way that the image side is strictly horizontally arranged and expressively designed, the eagle, twelve stars of Europe and the 10 euro denomination on the value side form a well-structured image.

  • 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome

The image side depicts an outline of the six founder states of the European Community as the core of European integration, radiating onto the remaining – stylized illustration – of Europe and thereby symbolizing the openness of the integration process and the importance of a unified Europe in the world.
The value side picks up on the radial arrangement of the stars in the illustration of the eagle’s wings, thereby establishing a correspondence with the image side.
The value side features an eagle, the lettering “BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND” (FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY), the twelve stars of Europe, the denomination with euro designation as well as the year 2007 and the mint mark “F” (State Mints of Baden-Württemberg (Staatliche Münzen Baden-Württemberg), Stuttgart mint).

  • 175th Birthday of Wilhelm Busch

The image side depicts a strong image of the “comic illustrator” Wilhelm Busch at the center of the motif (including signature), which sets itself apart from conventional illustrations in an original manner. The picture frame connects his portrait with the basic format of his wood-engraved comic strips. The artist of the coin picks up on two of Busch’s most famous strips as an example (Max and Moritz, Helen Who Couldn’t Help it).
On the value side, the illustration of the national emblem, the eagle, in a picture frame is an impressive way of establishing a connection to the image side, with the dignified illustration of the national emblem being emphasized by small details.

  • 50th Anniversary of the German Central Bank

The image side depicts a set of scales with items that represent the monetary part of the economy on the left-hand side (cash, currency reserves) and, on the right hand side, the actual economy (production companies, banks). Over a period of 50 years, the German Central Bank has contributed to establishing balance between these two aspects and thereby also to economic growth; the artist has illustrated this in the background with the diagram covering five decades.
The diagram element has been picked up again on the value side, establishing a good correspondence to the image side.

  • 800th Birthday of Elizabeth of Hungary

On the image side, the work of St. Elizabeth of Hungary is shown impressively in four motifs: Feeding the poor in the bottom section and central aspects of her life in the top section. The motifs are positioned in the corners of a quatrefoil, with the saint herself at the center. The figure of Elizabeth, which is reminiscent of Gothic sculptures, clearly expresses her sacrifice for those in need and the ill.
The very well presented, Gothic style of the eagle is appropriate to the time period.
