Designed by Bastian Prillwitz from Berlin, the coin impressively showcases the multifaceted nature of German craftsmanship as a harmonious interplay of material, function, and aesthetics. Tools and crafted objects fill the coin’s imagery like a journey of discovery, complemented by puzzle‑like typography. Finely chiseled details and a calligraphically interpreted eagle on the value side underscore the high artistic ambition of the design.
Design is a central quality feature of craftsmanship. Craftsmanship not only executes concepts but also actively shapes product and service culture. It combines material expertise, functionality, and aesthetics to create an independent design approach. In roughly one third of the more than 130 skilled trades, design plays a key role—from painters, carpenters, and goldsmiths to instrument makers, media designers, and orthopaedic technicians. Through training and further education, such as at the design academies of the skilled trades, design knowledge is systematically fostered. Design in craftsmanship therefore holds both cultural significance and economic relevance.
