Description Coin

Description Coin

The coin motif, designed by the artist Detlef Behr from Cologne, perfectly captures the iconic roof architecture of the Berlin Olympic Stadium. The final of the UEFA European Football Championship 2024 will take place there. At the centre of a stylised pitch, including the corner flags, is an almost tangible football, with and around which everything revolves. The coin's colouring references the German national colours. The numbers 1 and 0 represent both a possible match result and the ten European Championship venues. The value side was designed by Lorenz Crössmann from Berlin and harmonises very well with the motif side with the dignified German eagle.

Backgroundinformation

Backgroundinformation

"The silver coin (Ag 500), which honours this event, was created in cooperation with the German Football Association (DFB). In keeping with the old footballing adage ‘You must be eleven friends’, this is the first 11-euro coin in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The new European champions will be determined from 14 June to 14 July. The venues: Berlin, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart. The tournament is being organised by EURO 2024 GmbH, a joint venture between the DFB and the European Football Union (UEFA). The aim is to host a ‘EURO for all’ and to show how such a major sporting event can be organised in a safe, contemporary and sustainable manner. Its impact should reach beyond the stadiums and send valuable impulses into society. The involvement of the population, which has been involved since the start of the bid, for example through the #2024andYou ideas process, plays a key role in this. The tournament creates unforgettable memories for players and fans, regardless of where in the world they watch the games. The shared passion for the most beautiful pastime in the world, the matches between major football nations with a long tradition and up-and-coming challengers, as well as the invitation to get to know other cultures and to live out one's own national pride positively and without arrogance, ensure a peaceful football festival and new friendships."
