Description Coin

Description Coin

The interplay of the different coloured outer rings complements each other in an unprecedented blaze of colour. The third coin in the ‘Air moves’ series emphasises the theme of ‘On the water’ in two ways. The motif shows three windsurfers on their boards with their sails billowing out at full speed. The waves are piling up beneath the boards - ideal conditions for a fast ride on the water. On the other hand, the beautifully gleaming outer ring in bright blue is captivating. This blue colour is the result of an elaborate, innovative niobium plating process, making it a unique feature on the coin market. Together with the copper-nickel core and the transparent polymer ring, the result is an extraordinary, harmonious triad of materials.

Backgroundinformation

Backgroundinformation

Windsurfing, a sport that originated in the USA, is one of the most popular water sports of all. Whether on the Atlantic coast in Portugal, on Norderney or on the coast of California - you can see boards with the large colourful sails everywhere when the wind conditions are good. The sport itself is not that old - two Americans registered the patent for windsurfing in 1968, and the dynamic trend sport has been an Olympic discipline since 1984.
