Backgroundinformation

Backgroundinformation

Sebastian Kneipp, a priest from a humble background, developed a holistic health concept for body and mind in the 19th century, which helped him achieve fame and prominence far beyond the country's borders. Water plays a very special role in the methods of the passionate alternative practitioner. Kneipp himself cured his stubborn tuberculosis disease by taking regular baths in the ice-cold Danube. Inspired by this success, he continued to study the healing effects of water treatments and ultimately integrated them as an essential component into his healing concept. Even today, Kneipp water treatments such as treading water, watering, wraps, contrast showers and cold baths are still practiced and used for many types of complaints. The holistic medicine of the “water doctor”, as he was popularly known, is based on five pillars. In addition to the hydrotherapy mentioned, the health concept is based on conscious nutrition, balance, sufficient exercise and the healing power of natural herbs.

Kneipp was a thorn in the side of pharmacists and doctors during his lifetime. They disliked the fact that Kneipp was becoming increasingly popular with the population thanks to its quick and free treatments. They finally even filed a complaint - but without success: Kneipp was acquitted in court.
